2025 Lent Devotional

What is Lent?

Lent is a period of 40 days (excluding Sundays) leading to Easter where Christians dedicate themselves to the Lord in preparation for his death and resurrection. This preparation historically consists of fasting (which is strictly referring to food) along with other acts of charity during these 40 days as a reminder of Jesus in the wilderness without food or drink for 40 days. The purpose of these practices is meant to direct our gaze toward the Lord Jesus Christ, imitate him, and ultimately draw closer to him.

The goal of this devotional is for you to read and reflect on God’s word. The devotional comments will be kept to a minimum to guide you in your reading. Only what is noteworthy will be written.

How It Will Work

Starting on Ash Wednesday (March 5), for the seven weeks leading up to Easter, as an English congregation, we will read through the Gospel of Mark together. Here we will be acquainted again with the ministry of Jesus. Be reminded of his works. Be amazed again of his authority, identity, and wisdom. We'll also see the people around him, how did they see Jesus? How did they respond to Jesus, and why?

Every Sunday, the devotional reading for the week will be unlocked below for your access. Grab a friend or two, do it in your cell groups, or find a stranger. Anyone who is willing to read with you!

Suggested Reading Format

While you could read this in any way you like. The devotional is designed for you to prayerfully read through the daily passage once (which is usually short), then read the accompanying words of this devotional, and read through the passage again for a second time as you reflect on God’s word.

Let us prepare our hearts as we remember that he who knew no sin became sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
